The Battlecruiser CAD
December 2020 ~ Independent Project
Overview
To develop my SolidWorks CAD skills while having fun, I recreated the Battlecruiser, an epic fighting unit, from Starcraft II in SolidWorks. This is independently completed in a timeframe of 2 weeks.
Objectives
- The CAD shall be a scaled model of the Battlecruiser.
- The CAD shall be 3D-printer friendly, and it should be able to be 3D printed at any time and assembled with minimal adhesives.
- The CAD shall have a linear dimension of 18".
Skills
Mechanical Design: Solidworks modeling (sketches, extrudes, cuts, fillets, chamfers, basic mates, global dimensions, etc), large assembly modeling, design for manufacturing
Outcomes
- 43 different parts over 20 hours
- Total wingspan: 12 inches. Length: 18 inches. Height: 6.5 inches.
- Every part was connected using pin connectors for ease of joining.
- I became much more familiar with complex CAD models, especially when working with more complex geometries and larger assemblies.
